CDL Truck Drivers and CDL Truck Driver Recruiters-Understanding the Lies and Deceit

Many CDL truck drivers that label CDL driver recruiters as liars have, in fact, dealt with a lying driver recruiter or two. The fact of the matter is, one or two bad experiences should not force a person to shy away from "all" of the CDL truck driver recruiters out there. Believe it or not, there are some very honest CDL driver recruiters in the industry and surprisingly enough, a driver recruiter that has been labeled a liar could have simply been misinformed or misunderstood. Although there are CDL driver recruiters that are notorious liars, some recruiters have been given information with the realistic expectation that it is true. With transportation and freight being somewhat unpredictable, drivers need to understand that in life, sometimes things change. In the transportation business, change can occur almost daily and being able to embrace change is key to understanding it and living a content life as a Class A CDL driver.

On the other hand, many CDL truck driver recruiters come to the instant conclusion that all CDL truck drivers are liars. This is only true some of the time. It is understood that most CDL truck driver recruiters come in contact with anywhere between 10-50 CDL drivers per day. Many times a great percentage of these drivers have lied or withheld the truth regarding criminal backgrounds, motor vehicle reports and past employment history. Although lying is never acceptable, the fact that the CDL truck driver lied or withheld information is not an indication of this person being a liar or a bad person, but a mere indication that the driver is trying very hard to get someone to regain confidence in their ability to be an outstanding and safe driver for their company. Many times these drivers have been turned down from gainful employment in the trucking industry on numerous occasions and are so desperate for a job that they will try anything. It is not hard to understand why they lie, since it takes gainful employment to be able to take care of themselves and their family. When they are under pressure to pay bills and feed their families, many truck drivers are just trying to slip through the cracks to accomplish the ability to sustain the necessities of life.

What many truck drivers have yet to understand is that in the transportation industry, with so much regulation from the Department of Transportation, Insurance companies, and most importantly, the new CSA 2010, companies, now more than ever, are dotting all of their I's and crossing all of their T's by verifying all references, pulling DAC reports, criminal backgrounds and motor vehicle reports prior to adding any new CDL truck driver to their team. With that being said, not only does the truck driver waste a lot of their own time with false hopes, but they also waste the time of the driver recruiter and the company that has to take time to do all of the research. The end result is nowhere for the CDL truck driver and the trucking company. When drivers run into situations that make them ineligible for hire in the trucking industry, the best thing they can do for themselves is to find a job that gets the bills paid outside of the industry until the issue that is haunting them is removed from their records. Some of the issues such as felonies and misdemeanors may cause them to be forced out of the industry all together. As an adult, it is much simpler to take responsibility for your mistakes and do what you have to do to support yourselves and loved ones. Even if it means finding work in another industry.
